“You’re thinking like a developer… but you don’t develop!?”
Today, I was talking to a friend of mine today who’s head of an IT department in an organization of a 100+ people. He shared with me that he was looking into developing an iPhone App. He’s not a developer, but knows his way around.
I showed him swebapps.com, a website where you can make an iPhone App in five minutes. He was hooked.
He responded:”It’s great for any enterprise, this costs almost nothing!”
He saw a great tool to develop an iPhone app instantly.
It was a WYSIWYG tool that only has a standard set of features that you need to pay for… and pay for hosting too!
“Why not build one yourself?” I asked.
“You are thinking like a developer though!” He replied. “You gotta stop doing that!”
So I asked him; “What if I can make a custom App that can do whatever you want for the same price?”
He was right, I was indeed thinking as a developer, but having a different meaning for the word. I was not planning on doing any coding. There are millions of developers that can do better job coding than I can and who are willing to build something for a small fee. That’s the way I think; I think like a developer, without getting lost in code.
The secret is easy:
1 – Draw your iPhone application on a GuiBoard. If you want, use GuiMags with that.
2 – Snap some pictures and make a PDF that explains in a few words what it’s supposed to do.
3 – Put a job on oDesk.com and let coders bid on it.
In no-time, you’ll have a custom iPhone App ready to submit to the App Store and a whole new way of thinking opens up the next time you need to build something.
